I’m still listening to the final tracks of this as I type it out, and I must say I’m so happy I picked this up. I knew I liked Logic, I’ve heard a good amount of his stuff and I grabbed this on a whim a few months ago when i was out record shopping. Life’s been busy, so it literally took until today to throw it on. What a good album.
As someone who grew up on early to mid 2000’s rap, this one hit. The best way I can think to describe it is having that old mixtape feel. 30 tracks, lots of quick hits.. not a lot of filler, just beats & bars.. and then having it hosted by Funk Master Flex!? Sheesh.
There were a few stand out tracks for me, but for whatever reason the two highlights were:
- “Ten Years” (w/ Royce Da 5’9) - the beat on this one is very much my shit. I’ve always been a fan of Royce as well, so hearing them come together for this one was a joy to listen to.
- “Porta one” (w/ RZA) - lucky enough for me, this one immediately follows “Ten Years”. Big tie is to Wu Tang’s “Bring Da Ruckus” in this, which is only amplified by the RZA feature.
This is something I want to do more often - pick up records I’ve never listened to when I know the artist, like Logic, is a safe bet to deliver some quality music. This one is a solid front to back listen, and I can easily see it being a regular to put on in the background when I’m gaming.
