eBay - Box Breaks - Panini Mosaic / Spectra / XR Football 2020 - Chicago Bears - MY FIRST BIG BREAK HIT!
I hit up something a little different this time around for the breaks. Well.. two things different I guess! 1 - I decided to hit up some football content and 2 - this is a mixed bag of products across two auctions by the same seller. I have some older stuff ordered, but outside of a couple Mitchell Trubisky (and that ship has sailed in Chicago, but that’s a different conversation) cards I don’t have a lot in the way of the Bears current team.
I’m not overly familiar with most card offerings, but I’m especially ignorant when it comes to football. I don’t have a ton of insight on what exactly I jumped into with these breaks, I just know I’m hitting quite a few different products, and I’m hoping that translates to a good range of different cards. I figured this would be better than something like a 4 box break on just Spectra where I could end up with a bunch of dupes.
Also an insight into the struggles of these breaks, and how they work. I had my max bid in on the second part of the break, but the auction closed at around 3:00am my time. Obviously I was asleep. I had the time mixed up and thought that it closed a few hours later, which I’d be good to just pay when I woke up. Because of this, some guys who do breaks will sell off those team spots to other people if they aren’t paid by the time the break goes live. I woke up to a couple messages asking for me to pay (rightfully so), so I paid right away, but I know the break had already gone down. What was the outcome? Well initially they just didn’t reply to either of my messages on eBay for like 24 hours.. but we were all good! I didn’t lose my spot on the second break.

This was my first experience that made me think “hey, maybe these breaks aren’t for me”. Clearly I’m not in the right time-zone for this if I’m going to be running into trouble for not sending my payment around 2:30-3:00AM. I get why the seller operates in this way, cause they’ve probably been burned in the past by awful buyers. Either way, the annoyance of this break put a damper on the usual fun of a break. The flip side is it all worked out, and this was my first big hit in a break when I hit that Cole Kmet auto. Was it worth it? Absolutely. I just wish I could have jumped into watching the break without all the confusion.
